Iridology in Cats
Iridology is a diagnostic science being adapted to pet health. Irregularities of the iris are thought to correspond to health concerns, so medical professionals known as iridologists look at the iris of the animal's eye to complete a noninvasive diagnostic exam.

Iridology is the process of examining the specific visual appearance, structural condition and tissue health of the iris, in order to learn more about an animal's medical need. It is generally seen as a holistic or natural medicine diagnostic tool.

The colors and patterns observed in the iris are believed to give information about a pet's health. Specific areas of the iris correspond to parts of the body and organs. Any discoloration in the iris can be a sign that the area of the body associated with that area of the eye is over- or under-active.

Charts of the feline iris have been compiled based on veterinary iris scans and their corresponding medical diagnosis. Iridologists use charts of the iris in much the same way that reflexologists use charts of the feet and hands to determine the area of concern, and offer potential diagnosis.
Technology

An iridologist uses special equipment, such as iriscope cameras, to examine the iris, looking for indicators of pet health and disease presence. There is special computer software designed to assist in this process.

The noninvasive nature of examination can prevent accidental further damage which could be done by a physical, invasive analysis of the animal's condition. Also changes in the iris that occur as the result of illness and disease often appear before other physical symptoms and can lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment.
