Ice Fishing in Lake Parley, Minnesota
Ice fishing is a favorite sport in the long, cold Minnesota winters. Underneath the peaceful expanses of a frozen lake, the fishing can be surprisingly good, especially at midday and through the afternoon on clear days.

Fishing Stuff
-
Prepare for ice fishing with proper equipment. This includes rods and reels, 4- to 8-pound test "ice line," proper bait (minnows and wax worms), bobbers, needle-nose pliers, ice augers and scoops, and the proper jigs, spoons and hooks. Don't forget a portable folding chair or bucket.
Legalities
-
You also need a fishing license and identification. The Minnesota DNR does not hibernate in winter, and daily size and bag limits apply all year long.
Safety Equipment
-
For safety and warmth, bring along hand warmers, sunglasses, snacks, a first aid kit, a propane heater with fuel, an operating cell phone, and some kind of portable shelter. A spud bar helps you gauge the thickness of the ice. To carry it all, bring a sled or toboggan. Never drive directly onto the ice.
