Where Can I Go to Sell My Used Tools?

Selling your tools doesn't have to be a headache.

Selling your used tools can be challenging. If you think outside the box, however, you can find homeowners and professionals who are looking to buy tools at affordable prices.

  1. Craigslist

    • This free online classifieds site offers individual sub-sites in more than 700 cities and regions across the world and is used by more than 50 million people in the U.S. alone. List your items in Craigslist's "Tools" section or search the "Wanted" section for people who are looking to buy tools locally.

    eBay

    • eBay is the world's largest online auction and sales site. When you list something on eBay you can specify whether you are willing to ship it or whether local pickup is required. You can also list your tools as an auction or "Buy It Now" item. eBay charges a small listing fee and keeps a percentage of the money you receive from the sale of your goods.

    Pawn Shops

    • Pawn shops not only lend money on items but also pay outright for certain goods. They will usually pay more for specialty or high-end tools than hammers, screwdrivers or drill-bit sets.

    Schools

    • High schools and colleges with industrial arts (often known as "shop") classes or automotive classes may be interested in purchasing your tools. Check your phone book and call area schools to get in contact with program supervisors.

    Businesses

    • Local home improvement firms, construction companies and automotive repair stations may also be interested in purchasing your tools. Contact them over the phone or bring your tools by in person.
