The Structural Packaging Designer's Job

A structural packaging designer is a professional who designs packaging for a variety of consumer products, goods, or for safe shipping of fragile products.

  1. Education

    • Most employers require a bachelor's degree in industrial design, engineering or graphic design.

    Skills

    • Working with internal and external clients, this occupation requires excellent customer service skills and strong knowledge of one or several graphic design software packages. Previous experience may also be required.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsibilities include designing cost-effective packaging for products or goods from conception to completion, which includes testing prototypes and materials. These occupations also work with vendors and suppliers to find cost-effective, quality materials for the designed packaging concept to be manufactured.

    Job Type

    • Many of these jobs are often on a short-term or contractual basis, unless employed by a large manufacturer of consumer products or employed by a package design consulting firm.
