What is Mold?

Mold is a fungus characterized by a fuzzy texture that grows on any moist organic matter. There are many different types of mold, and they vary in color by type.
Mold vs. Mildew

Many people use the terms mold and mildew interchangeably. In reality, mildew is a specific type of mold that grows on fabric.

Health Risks

Mold releases mycotoxins into the air, which can cause a toxic reaction in humans. It is also believed to be linked to a myriad of other health complications, such as asthma, allergic reaction, and infections.
If Affected by Mold

Anytime someone believes that his health has been affected by the presence of mold he needs to do two things: consult a physician and remove the mold.
Mold Removal

Any surface found in a home that is covered in mold needs to be replaced. This commonly includes Sheetrock and drywall. Occasionally a HEPA vacuum should be run after removal of the moldy surface to insure that all mold spores have been cleaned from the home.
