Engineered hardwood flooring is made from real wood. However, unlike solid wood flooring that is made from one piece of wood, engineered hardwood is made up of three to ten layers of wood. Engineered wood has several benefits. Does this Spark an idea?

The engineered layers of wood are called plies. These plies are assembled and glued together in a cross-ply pattern, with the top layer ranging from 1/16- to 1/6-inch thick.

Due to its multi-layer construction, engineered hardwood flooring is more durable than solid wood flooring.

Engineered hardwood flooring is more stable when subjected to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. As a result, it is less likely to shrink.
Significance

Because engineered hardwood flooring is less likely to shrink or expand, it can be installed below ground level, and also directly over concrete flooring.
Considerations

Some engineered floors can be refinished. However, some have a thin top layer and cannot be refinished like traditional hardwood floors. However, the surface of the floor can be renewed with recoating.
