Camping with a recreational vehicle (RV) in Virginia Beach is considered a budget accommodation option, compared to the resort strip hotels. RV parks are located in many areas of Virginia Beach beyond the immediate resort area and include privately owned, commercial and Virginia State Park campgrounds.

  1. Cost

    • RV parks are an inexpensive way to have a Virginia Beach vacation. Fees vary in price from $20 to $50 per night.

    Types

    • RV campgrounds in Virginia Beach offer either primitive camping with no electricity, or full hookups for electric, water, sewer and, in some places, cable.

    Seasonality

    • Some RV parks are open only during peak tourist season between May and October. Others remain open all year because of the relatively mild Virginia Beach winters.

    Weather

    • Virginia Beach weather is hot and humid in the summer and colder, but mild, in the winter. Four-season camping is not uncommon in Virginia Beach but tropical weather during the summer and nor'easters during the winter are weather events to be prepared for.

    Geography

    • Virginia Beach campgrounds are spread out along the coast and interior from the Chesapeake Bay in the northern part of the city, along the Atlantic coast and down to Sandbridge and Pungo in the Back Bay area at the south end.
