Under Armour was founded in 1996 by former University of Maryland football player Kevin Plank. The company, publicly traded as of February 2010, specializes in performance athletic apparel for men, women, and youth, according to its website.

Types

While Under Armour makes clothing and accessories for various sports and situations, they have three primary product lines. HeatGear is designed for warm weather activity, ColdGear for cold weather activity, and AllSeasonGear for the in-between.

Under Armour designs clothing for a wide range of sports, including football, hockey, lacrosse, fishing and snow sports.

In addition to traditional athletic wear (e.g., shorts, t-shirts), Under Armour produces sport-specific compression clothing. Compression clothing is tight fitting apparel that, according to the Under Armour Website, aids in muscle recovery and fights fatigue and muscle soreness post workout.

In addition to a full line of apparel and compression clothing, Under Armour also makes footwear, including baseball cleats, eyewear, headwear, bags, gloves, protective gear and socks.
Philanthropy

As of February 2010, Under Armour donates five percent of the retail price of all items in its "Power in Pink" line to breast cancer research.
Partnerships

As of February 2010, Under Armour supplies athletic apparel to collegiate and professional sports teams, including University of Hawaii football and Toronto Maple Leafs hockey.
