Allergies in Boxer Dogs
Allergies are commonplace when it comes to humans, but dogs can suffer from them as well. Allergies can cause discomfort for Boxers and put them into extreme despair. There are three different types of allergies that afflict boxers.
-
External Allergies
-
External allergies in Boxers start as slight itching and can become so bothersome that they begin to lose fur. Sores may eventually develop, which can become infected easily.
Causes and Treatments for External Allergies
-
These allergies can be caused by fleas or chemicals, including cleaning solutions and detergents. It's important to treat your Boxer with flea medication that will kill adults and larvae. To determine if it is a chemical allergy, the process of elimination is the best solution.
-
Internal Allergies
-
Internal allergies in Boxers can cause vomiting and diarrhea, neither of which is normal.
Causes and Treatments for Internal Allergies
-
Internal allergies are generally caused by something your Boxer has ingested. The process of food elimination and slow reintroduction is the best way to determine the problem.
Respiratory Allergies
-
Respiratory allergies can produce coughing, sneezing and wheezing in your Boxer.
Causes and Treatments for Respiratory Allergies
-
Your boxer's respiratory allergies can be caused by tobacco smoke and treated easily by smoking outdoors. Seasonal allergies, caused by trees, weeds and pollen, can be treated by prescription medication from your vet.
