Motherhood & Anger
Although women frequently talk about the joys of motherhood, a less-expressed topic is motherhood anger. As a result of the complete dedication, extensive time requirements and difficult duties associated with caring for children, some mothers experience overwhelming bouts of anger.
-
Causes
-
A mother's anger might be caused by her children's misbehavior, especially when she feels as though she cannot control their actions. Additionally, some mothers resent the responsibilities associated with motherhood and feel angry at the loss of their former self.
Effects
-
Motherhood anger has a detrimental effect on the mother, her partner and the children. Unfortunately, as the mother expresses her anger towards her children and partner, it typically makes the situation worse.
-
Solution
-
When a mother feels an overwhelming sense of anger, a variety of techniques can be employed to resolve it. For example, she can try to take deep breaths, write her thoughts in a journal, go for a walk, pray or meditate.
Prevention
-
Many mothers notice certain signs that indicate their anger is about to surface. To prevent a display of anger, the techniques used to solve anger (deep breaths, meditation, walking) may also help prevent an outburst.
Considerations
-
A mother who is experiencing unusually severe or frequent bouts of anger should consider seeking counseling services. Constant or severe anger can be extremely damaging to a person's life, along with the lives of her family members.
