As of May 2008, electronics engineers earned an average of $88,670 per year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The specific salary for an individual engineer varies based upon geography, the industry he works in and how much education she has.

    • The lowest-paid 10 percent of electronic engineers earned $55,330 or less, while the highest-paid 10 percent earned $129,920 or more as of May 2008, according to the BLS.

    Largest Employers

    • The largest employers of electronics engineers as of May 2008 were the federal government, wired telecommunications carriers and semiconductor component manufacturers, reports the BLS. Engineers employed in these areas earned average salaries of $95,850, $81,970 and $88,520, respectively.

    Highest-Paying Employers

    • As of May 2008, the highest-paying employers of electronics engineers were specialized design services and scientific research and development companies, explains the BLS. Professionals working in these fields averaged $113,490 and $103,840, respectively.

    Education

    • Electronics engineers with master's degrees earned average maximum salaries of $87, 307 as of February 2010, reports Payscale.com. Those with bachelor's degrees in electronics engineering received maximums that averaged $59,007.

    Geography

    • The highest-paying area for an electronic engineer to work in was the District of Columbia, where professionals averaged $105,190 per year, according to May 2008 BLS reports. Other high-paying states included Rhode Island, New Jersey, California and Massachusetts.
