Ride Safe

Motorcycle rider safety training is a good way to get defensive riding skills. It is recommended to learn how to ride a motorcycle safely before one is purchased and ridden.

  1. State Requirements

    • In order to get a motorcycle endorsement on your license, most states require the new rider to take a written test and a riding test at their local department of motor vehicles.

    Safety

    • In some states, a motorcycle rider safety training course can be taken in place of the state-mandated tests. The rider course is preferred by some riders as the state test course can be difficult for the novice rider.

    Training

    • A motorcycle rider safety training course will consist of classroom instruction and actual riding practice. Riders are taught to ride in a controlled space.

    Learn to Ride

    • Simulated real situations can be practiced with less chance of injury. Riders learn defensive maneuvers, how to accelerate and break, ride over objects, dodge objects that cannot be driven over, and other safety and riding techniques.

    Get Your Endorsement

    • Riders must pass a written test and the riding test in a rider safety training course. Once both are passed, they will be given certification that can be taken to the department of motor vehicles for obtaining the motorcycle endorsement on their driver license.
