Intrathecal Injections for Back Pain

Intrathecal injections are given to patients who are experiencing back pain because of arthritis, inflammation or joint tenderness. It's not intended to be a cure, its only to help get through a period of intense pain.

    • Intrathecal injections are for those whose only other choice would be back surgery. Before receiving these injections, the patient must not be on any blood-thinning medications.

    Injection Ingredients

    • The active ingredients in the intrathecal injections are hydrocortisone and corticosteroid, both of which mimic our natural hormone cortisone, helping to relieve the pain almost instantly.

    Duration of the Injections

    • Depending on the severity of the pain, a back specialist will usually prescribe three injections over a three week period. This procedure is done as outpatient, taking only fifteen to twenty minutes.

    People at Risk for These Pain Injections

    • People who shouldn't consider having these pain injections are pregnant women and those who have high blood pressure.

    The Benefits From The Intrathecal Injections

    • The benefits from the intrathecal injections can last for up to four to six months, allowing for much improved mobility that's pain free.

    Side Affects of Intrathecal Injections

    • The intrathecal injections have virtually no side affects and are completely safe, unfortunately, the initial pain will return after the injections have worn off.
