Management & Administration of Day Care Centers
Administrators and managers at day care centers can find their work extremely rewarding, but taking care of children is also a job that comes with a lot of responsibility. They have to make sure that the center is equipped with all necessary supplies and that all staff are trained in accordance with local law.
-
Paperwork
-
Day care managers and administrators have to be on top of legal paperwork, such as the center`s licensing fees, liability insurance, employee background checks, First Aid and CPR certification for instructors, and detailed information on each child, including allergies, special needs and instructions.
Safety and Cleanliness
-
Safety and cleanliness is a top priority in management. All day cares should have a first aid kit, changing stations and supplies, sanitary storage, gloves, antibacterial cleaners as well as regular safety procedure training and emergency preparedness sessions with staff.
-
Eating and Napping
-
Managing a day care entails ensuring the center has basic supplies so that the children can eat and sleep, including nap mats, bedding, food and drink.
Entertainment
-
Administrators should be sure the day care center is equipped with enough items to keep the kids entertained and educated. Toys, books, educational materials and music are common supplies.
Special Programs
-
Day care managers coordinate with parents and instructors to plan special activities for their charges, such as arts and crafts programs and special visitors, like clowns or Santa.
