Single Braid

African single-braid styles are popular because of their low maintenance and upkeep. Single-braid styles allow for a different look without damaging or permanently altering your hairstyle. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Plaits

    • Three sections of hair are woven together to form a single braid. The hair can be plaited in sections or as one single braid on the top, back or side of the head.

    Cornrows

    • Cornrows are braided very close to the scalp. The hair can be braided straight back or in a pattern to create a unique style.

    Micro Braids

    • Hair is plaited in individual braids and fake hair is added to give the style length. Micro braids are very small and require a lot of time to complete. In salons more than one person will work on your hair to reduce the wait time.

    French Braid

    • Three sections of the hair beginning at the top of the head are taken and locked close to the head. French braids can be done over-handed or under-handed. The end of the hair is folded under and pinned or a hair clip should be added to hold the braid together.

    Upkeep

    • Moisturize with hair oil or oil sheen to make sure the hair doesn't dry up or become brittle. Use a satin scarf or bonnet at night to help the style stay intact.
