Welsh Corgi Puppies Information

The Welsh Corgi, more commonly known as the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, is an unusual breed of canines that have been around since the early 10th century. Corgis are part of a Nordic group of canines that also include the Pomeranian, the Chow Chow and the Samoyed. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi was first officially recognized in 1934 by both the American Kennel Club and the United Kingdom Kennel Club.

  1. Temperament

    • Potential owners can expect their Welsh Corgi to be loyal and active. Welsh Corgis are a good breed for families, especially those with children or other pets.

    Training

    • Corgi puppies should be trained and socialized early to prevent behavioral issues such as excessive barking or small dog syndrome. SDS is a behavioral issue in which the small dog feels he is the leader of the house.

    Size

    • Owners can expect their Welsh Corgi pup to grow up to 12 inches in height. Male Corgis will weigh up to 30 pounds, while females should weigh up to 28 pounds.

    Appearance

    • Welsh Corgis come in a variety of colors including sable, black, tan, fawn and red; all of which may or may not feature white markings. Corgis have two coats--the undercoat is thick and short, while the outer coat is coarse and longer.

    Life Expectancy

    • Well-cared-for and healthy Welsh Corgis can live for up to 15 years.
