What Is the Benefit of Architectural Shingles?
There are two basic types of fiberglass shingles: architectural and three-tab. While three-tabs are composed of one layer, architects are multi-layer shingles. They have a more distinguished look than three-tab shingles, which have a constant pattern running across and up and down a roof. Also, architectural shingles take longer to wear than three-tabs. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Wind Damage
-
Architectural shingles have glue strips at the bottom of the shingle, making them less likely to blow off of the roof due to high winds.
Strength
-
Architectural shingles are stronger than three-tabs and less likely to rip or tear.
-
Installation
-
Thanks to their "three-dimensional" look, architectural shingles are easier to install. This makes imperfections in a roof harder for the naked eye to catch.
Nailing
-
Nails are less likely to blow through architectural shingles because they have a stronger nailing strip than three-tabs.
Lifetime
-
Architectural shingles last longer under tough weather, thanks to their multi-layer manufacturing process.
Costs
-
Despite common belief, architectural shingles are not much more expensive than three-tab shingles. Consumers who chose architectural shingles may spend less over time because of the lower number of necessary repairs and longer shingle life compared to three-tabs.
