Parasites can cause pets to develop mange.

Mange is a condition that is characterized by overactive parasites under the skin of a cat or dog. Although parasites always live the surface of the animal's skin, sometimes they can get out of hand and cause irritation, rash and loss of fur. Mange can be identified by decreased appetite in the animal, weight loss, scratching, thinning fur and scabbing patches on the ears, head and neck.
