Diet

A change in diet can cause weight gain. If you could not eat certain foods, or much at all, before the surgery you may find your appetite has increased. Since gallbladder surgery can upset the stomach, it's best to stick to six small meals a day and to avoid foods high in fat.

After gallbladder surgery a number of patients experience abdominal symptoms such as cramping or diarrhea. Different medications are prescribed based on the symptoms, and a side effect of these medications can include weight gain.

Stress

Stress or lack of sleep can cause weight gain. Not only are you less energetic, but you may eat when you're stressed instead of only when you're hungry.

Exercise

After surgery it may take you a while to get back into your normal exercise routine. A change in routine, especially for those who exercise frequently, may lead to weight gain.

Medical Condition
