-
Minors Only
-
By definition, cyber bullying can take place only between minors. When an adult is involved with any type of harassment his actions are defined differently.
Mediums of Harassment
-
The Internet, cell phones, text messaging and social-networking sites constitute a major part of young people's social lives. These mediums are regularly used by bullies intent upon harassment.
-
Types
-
Cyber bullying often presents itself in the form of mean-spirited or threatening emails and text messages. Perpetrators may also create websites or use social-networking sites to make fun of classmates.
Effects
-
According to the National Crime Prevention Council, the effects of cyber bullying are particularly unnerving because the intimidation may continue even while the victim is at home, thus making escape seem impossible.
Prevention/Solution
-
The best solution to cyber bullying is for a young person to have a good relationship and communication with a trusted adult. Additionally, it is important to equip children with strategies for dealing with today's harassment techniques.
