Fungus on Fingers

Fungus on fingers can lead to an infection of the skin around the nails and between the fingers or an infection of the nail itself. Caused by a variety of factors, leading to one or more symptoms, the condition can usually be treated and prevented effectively with a few home remedies.

  1. Causes

    • Fungus can enter the fingers or the nails through any surface wound. Also, when fingers or nails are subject to hot and moist conditions for a prolonged period of time, the nails and folds between fingers can become prone to fungal attacks.

    Symptoms

    • Often the fungus infection of the finger will lead to patchy skin between the fingers or around the nails. White spots under the nails and weak or thick abnormal nails are some of the symptoms.

    Prevention

    • Take care to keep fingers and nails clean and dry. Clip nails carefully. Do not share nail care products or towels. Avoid polish and artificial nails during and immediately after fungal attacks.

    Kitchen Remedies

    • Apply a paste of 1 tsp. of turmeric powder and water to affected nail and wash away when it dries. You could also soak your fingers in a bowl of water mixed with 2 tsp. of vinegar for about 15 minutes to treat your finger fungus.

    Alcohol and Peroxide Remedies

    • Soak some cotton wool in alcohol or hydrogen peroxide solution and rub over your affected finger or nails.
