Grants for foster children help kids.

There are two types of grants available for foster children: grants that enable foster parents to provide for children in their care and those payable to foster children themselves.

  1. Grant Definition

    • A grant is money given to a group, family or individual to help cover certain, well-defined expenses. Grants do not need to be reimbursed.

    Foster Family Definition

    • Foster families have been screened and trained by the state to take care of children who are unable to live in their homes of origin.

    Grants for Children

    • Both federal and state grants are available for foster children, most notably those that provide transitional assistance when children age out of the foster system. College tuition assistance via Pell Grants is also available, as most foster children are considered "independent" for this purpose.

    Grants for Families

    • Foster families receive a monthly stipend to help care for children. This is dependent on the number and ages of the children living in the home. Additional grants help with extracurricular and tutoring activities.

    Grants for Organizations

    • There also are grants for organizations that assist in foster placement and foster care. Group homes and shelters receive aid from religious and/or secular entities to provide for children in their care.
