What Is Microsoft Student?
Microsoft maintains a number of websites, collectively called Microsoft Student, that offer a variety of services, discounts and information to students of all ages.
-
Discounts
-
Microsoft's most popular student service offers educational versions of some of its software at up to 90 percent off of the software's normal retail price, although they may not come with every feature found in the standard version.
Features
-
These websites also offer a feed that delivers news pertinent to students, announcements of special events and competitions, such as the Imagine Cup technology competition, and general articles with tips on computing and how to succeed in school.
-
Misconceptions
-
These websites are not only aimed at American students, but those all over the globe as well. As of 2010, Microsoft maintains 17 different student websites representing 16 different countries (Belgium has one French and one Dutch language website).
Considerations
-
To qualify for discounted software, students need an active email address from their school or university--these usually end in ".edu."
Tips
-
As of 2010, students can follow updates from Microsoft Student on Facebook, where they can also help with their chosen charitable causes (see Resources).
