Toddler Travel Bed Safety
Travel with a toddler can be frustrating, especially when it comes to getting the child to sleep in an unfamiliar place. While there is no magic trick that can make your toddler sleep happily on vacation, there are plenty of things you can do to make sure the travel bed he sleeps in is safe.
-
Storage
-
Travel toddler beds should be stored in a place that is safe from extreme temperatures, insects and water damage. All of these elements could break down the integrity of the structure, making it unsafe for a toddler.
Transport
-
Toddler travel beds usually come with a travel case, which should always be used because it protects the bed from from wear and tear from being lugged through airports, tossed on and off the airplane or dragged through hotels. If the bed folds up small enough, keep it in your carry-on luggage to prevent damage.
-
Setup
-
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly. Sometimes something as little as locking the bars in the wrong order can affect the structure. Practice assembling and disassembling the bed before your trip to ensure you are comfortable with how it works.
Location
-
Find a place for the toddler bed where the child will be safe. Keep it away from doorways and stairs, preferably in a room where the door can be closed. Keep in mind that the child will be sleeping in an unfamiliar place, and be sure to have a good night light.
Usage
-
Be aware of any weight or height limits on the toddler bed. A child who is too big for the bed could be injured trying to use it. If the toddler bed has sides like a crib, stop using it if the child tries to climb out.
