Side Effects of Bavolex

Produced by Smart Life Labs, Bavolex is a brand name for an herbal product advertised as being beneficial for people with irritable bowel syndrome. Although they are natural herbs, some of the ingredients in Bavolex pose a risk for side effects.

  1. Ingredients

    • The ingredients of Bavolex include lemon balm, 5-htp, bromelain, pancreatin, chamomile, ginger, peppermint, caraway, fennel and papain.

    Types of Side Effects

    • Lemon balm, bromelain and pancreatin have the potential to cause digestive side effects like nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Lemon balm also causes dizziness in some patients.

    Drug Interactions

    • 5-HTP has the potential to cause heart problems, shivering and anxiety in patients taking anti-depressants like fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, amitriptyline, clomipramine and imipramine, reports RxList. Lemon balm may cause excessive drowsiness when taken with drugs that slow down your nervous system like the tranquilizers clonazepam and lorazepam.

    Risks

    • 5-HTP may cause a life-threatening condition known as esinophilia myalgia syndrome, which causes damage to your nerves, warns RxList. Some patients experience severe allergic reactions to bromelain.

    Considerations

    • If you are pregnant or nursing, have a history of Down syndrome or allergies or are scheduled for surgery within the next two weeks, it may not be safe for you to take Bavolex due to its ingredients. Because Bavolex is an herbal supplement, its safety and effectiveness are not evaluated by the FDA.
