Paint colors fall under two categories: warm and cool. Warm colors include red, orange and yellow. Blue, green and violet are considered cool hues. Painting with a warm palette will energize guests and those living in your home. Using cool tones will promote rest and relaxation.

In the dining room, a lively color such as red or orange will uplift those who are eating there. Blue or green in the bedroom bring about a peaceful vibe.

Red causes blood pressure to rise along with your heart rate. It's the most vivid hue used in painting and can easily be overdone. It's best if you stick to the areas such as the living room and dining room when working with large amounts of the fiery hue. Orange is a toned-down version of red and it will still wake up a room without overdoing it.
