Clinical specialists work with lab technicians, technologists and supervisors to carry out medical laboratory tests. They help to identify the cause of illnesses and determine whether a treatment is effective.

As a clinical specialist you will perform specific laboratory tests dealing with bacteria and parasites including preparing cell cultures and analyzing biological specimens. Clinical specialists also determine drug levels in fluids.
Education

A four-year bachelor of science degree in medical technology, biology or chemistry is required to become a clinical specialist. Recommended courses includes biochemistry, microbiology, physiology,anatomy, mathematics and biostatistics.
