Program Management

An investor relations director oversees a firm's entire investor relations program. This includes developing an annual department budget, creating presentation materials and managing investor relations staff members.

Creating Reports

On a consistent basis, an investor relations director drafts and presents reports regarding the financial health of a firm. These reports are for the benefit of both shareholders and the board of directors.

Point of Contact

As the primary point of contact for people outside the company, the investor relations director fields calls and answers questions from both investors and the media on an individual basis.

Education and Experience

In order to gain employment as an investor relations director, employers typically require that candidates for the position possess at least a four-year degree in addition to 10 or more years of professional experience.
