Technology Curriculum Director Job Description
Technology curriculum directors work within the school or college system to develop curricula for technology education, as well as assist other departments with the integration of technology into their instruction. Typically, curriculum directors do not actually teach classes; however, they are required to have a thorough background in educational theory and practice, as well as experience with curriculum design and instructional technology.

Educational Background
-
While requirements vary between states, cities and school districts, most technology curriculum directors are required to hold a master's degree in an education field or subject area. Some schools require that potential candidates have a license to teach in the state, as well as additional coursework in instructional technology.
Instructional Technology Experience
-
Technology curriculum directors must be skilled in all aspects of instructional technology theory and practice. They must have familiarity with social networks, wikis, blogs and other aspects of Web 2.0 technologies that are currently being employed in schools. Experience designing and using educational video games is a benefit as well, as is familiarity with programming languages, web design and various computer applications such as Inspiration and Photoshop.
-
Curriculum Design Experience
-
In addition to instructional technology, curriculum directors must have theoretical and practical experience with curriculum design. They need to be able to communicate well with the various academic departments in the school, and have a good understanding of testing standards in that particular district and state.
Other Skills
-
Technology curriculum directors must have excellent communication skills, as they are often required to express complex technological ideas to teachers who are not at all skilled in those areas. They must also be capable public speakers and have very good presentation skills.
Salary
-
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, salaries for curriculum directors range from around $38,000 to around $70,000; however, this range should be seen as just a guideline. More experienced professionals applying for jobs in major school districts (such as New York and Los Angeles) are likely to qualify for much higher salaries.
