What Is a Gas Blowback Airsoft Gun?

Airsoft guns are shooting replicas of actual firearms and generally are used for recreation and sport in a controlled environment. There are different types of airsoft guns but the gas blowback airsoft gun has become one of the more popular styles.

  1. Basic

    • The gas blowback airsoft gun enables its users to have more power than a general airsoft gun has and offers semi-automatic capability. They are more expensive than airsoft guns but are more popular because of their features.

    Features

    • These guns can fire rounds at well over 300 feet per second while some more advanced models can fire up to 400 feet per second. They are called "blowback" guns because the top slide on the gun moves backward when each shot is fired.

    Warning

    • According to airsoftdud.com, gas blowback airsoft gun users can load their guns with paintball BBs rather than plain BBs, but they must be used with caution. If the paintball BBs erupt inside the gun, the gun could be permanently damaged because the shattered paintball cannot be removed or unstuck.

    Identification

    • The gas blowback airsoft guns generally come as pistols and contain metal slides and barrels. Some guns are full metal bodies.

    How They Operate

    • The guns only operate on green gas, CO2 or propane. They are made to only use 0.2 g or heavier 6 mm BBs.
