Kindergarten Toilet Training

Most children enter kindergarten around the age of 5 or 6. When a child begins kindergarten it is important that they be fully potty trained in order to avoid classroom accidents.

  1. Types

    • Parents employ many different methods to toilet train their children. Some rely on systems of rewards for good behavior, while others punish for soiled underwear.

    Function

    • It is important that all children become potty trained in order to allow them to move past having their diapers changed to using the potty. Being potty trained gives children a sense of independence and represents a step towards self-sufficiency.

    Time Frame

    • Potty training can be a drawn-out process. Some children may take up to a year to fully master the skill of using the toilet, while other toddlers may quickly warm to using the toilet. Expect the process to take between one month and one year.

    Warning

    • Many kindergarten classes will require that all students be fully toilet trained. If your child does not yet meet these requirements, make sure that he is potty trained before the start of classes.

    Benefits

    • Having a toilet-trained child means no more messy diapers. In addition, toilet training is more hygienic and reduces the possibility of infection and rashes.
