Photofacial Vs. Peel

A PhotoFacial treatment is a series of pulsed light treatments that improve the appearance of the skin. Peels or chemical peels use a chemical solution to improve skin texture. Both procedures remove layers of skin. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Photofacials

    • According to the University of Texas Physicians' website, a Photofacial treatment is a "series of full face, gentle pulsed light treatments intended to improve the appearance of sun damaged and aged skin."

    Peels

    • Peels can range from mild to strong. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons' website says peels can "improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers."

    Candidates

    • A chemical peel is intended for those with blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. A Photofacial will improve the appearance of sun damage, including pigmentation and facial flushing.

    Recovery

    • Recovery time for peels can span from one day to months with symptoms including flaking and mild redness. A Photofacial has less side effects and most are typically mild.

    Outcome

    • Due to the wide range of peel types, results vary from improved texture and smoothness to a decrease in blemishes and wrinkles. According to the University of Texas Physicians' website, 75 to 95% of Photofacial patients report a 90% improvement.
