Supplements can reduce candida.

Candida is a yeast that inhabits the digestive tract, causing gas and indigestion. It can be triggered by antibiotics. An overgrowth of candida is difficult to treat, and science is discovering that candida causes other types of health disorders, such as thyroid problems and fibromyalgia.

  1. Candida and Thyroid

    • Many people with thyroid problems may also have a candida infection, according to Dr. Michael McNett, president and medical director of the Paragon Clinic. Doctors suspected the two were connected when they found that, when candida is treated, the thyroid symptoms disappear.

    Throid-Candida Connection

    • When your immune system attacks the candida, the candida cells rupture. The chemicals released by the yeast are absorbed and can cause the thyroid to malfunction.

    Tests for Candida

    • Tests to diagnose candida include an anti-candida blood test and a skin test for candida allergy.

    Diet for Candida

    • Candida is treated with a low-carbohydrate diet. The yeast thrives on sugars, and a low-carbohydrate diet deprives it of food.

    Candida Treatment

    • An antifungal drug, often the drug nystatin, is used to kill the yeast.
