Can You Video Call a Conference Call in Skype?

Skype has audio, video and chat capabilities via a software download. It is used both for business and personal use.

  1. Audio Call

    • Skype offers the ability to make audio calls using voice over IP or VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). You can call anyone with a Skype ID for free.

    Video Call

    • You also have the option to make video calls as long as you have a webcam either integrated, such as with a laptop, or via USB. The Skype settings can be modified to always answer with video or to use video at your command only.

    Chat

    • Skype also has a chat function that can serve as your instant-messaging client as well. This service is also free.

    Conferencing

    • As of January 2010, Skype's audio conferencing capability allows for up to three people. Video conferencing is available for one-to-one conference calls only. Therefore, you cannot video call a conference call in Skype.

    Accessories

    • A headset is very useful when using Skype for both audio and video conference calls. While a webcam does include a microphone, the sound quality tends to be clearer using a headset.
