Information on Dry Erase Boards
A dry erase board, also known as a whiteboard, is a glossy writing surface, usually of white color, that is used like a chalkboard. Instead of chalk, markers are used to write on the surface of the dry erase board.

History
-
Dry erase boards began as makerboards in the 1960s. They became popular during the 1980s and began to replace chalkboards in classrooms.
Types
-
There are five different types of materials used as writing surfaces. The different materials include melamine, an inexpensive material sold in office supply stores, painted aluminum or steel, glass or a hardcore laminate that is resistant to staining.
-
Identification
-
Although the term whiteboard refers to a dry erase board, it also refers to computer software applications that simulate dry erase boards.
Benefits
-
Dry erase boards are considered less messy than chalkboards and don't come with the same risk as chalkboards when it comes to allergies associated with chalk dust.
Considerations
-
Special markers designed to work with dry erase boards are the only type of markers that should be used to write on the dry erase board. These types of markers tend to dry-out faster than a conventional marker.
