Controlling fleas, ear mites, hookworms, roundworms and heartworms are a necessary part of a cat's health regimen. This task can seem overwhelming at times, with the amount of pharmaceuticals aimed at preventing these parasitic infestations.

  1. Identification

    • Revolution is the brand name of the drug Selamectin. It is available only through a prescription from a licensed veterinarian and is manufactured by pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

    Effects

    • Revolution is a monthly topical product indicated in cats for the control and prevention of fleas, ear mites, hookworms, roundworms and heartworms.

    Adverse Reactions

    • Because it is applied topically, the most common side effects reported are irritation and hair loss or thinning at the site of application. Rare side effects include enteric distress, vomiting, loss of appetite, excessive salivation, lethargy, ataxia and muscle tremors.

    Warning

    • If your cat experiences any of the rare side effects associated with Revolution, speak to a licensed veterinary medical-care provider as soon as possible.

    Prevention

    • To lessen the likelihood of your cat having a reaction to Revolution, use the product in the dosage and manner indicated by your veterinarian.
