Grant writers can freelance or work for non-profit organizations that are in need of funding. Many creative writers tend to work for themselves or teach creative writing at a school or university. Unlike grant writing, creative writing is a popular and therapeutic hobby among people of all ages.

Although a college degree may not be necessary for freelancers or all organizations hiring a grant writer, a person needs to have the proper training and knowledge in order to write proposals successfully. Grant writers also need to meet deadlines and be highly organized.
