Haemophilus Influenzae Treatment

Haemophilus influenzae is an infection that is caused by a group of bacteria. This condition can cause many unpleasant symptoms and has the potential to be dangerous if not treated.

  1. Cause

    • According to the University of Virginia Health System, this condition is transmitted by infected objects or people. If a person sneezes or is in close contact with another person, the group of bacteria that causes haemophilus influenzae can be passed on.

    Symptoms

    • Symptoms of this condition include ear infections, eye infections, pneumonia, meningitis, sinusitis and an infection in the throat called epiglottitis. Each of these can be permanently damaging if not treated properly.

    Diagnosis

    • In order to diagnose this condition, doctors will check for the specific infections commonly found with Haemophilus influenzae. Blood tests may also be needed to check for the bacteria that cause the condition.

    Treatment

    • The primary treatment for this condition is an antibiotic treatment. This treatment focuses on clearing up the infections caused by the condition until the body rids itself of Haemophilus influenzae.

    Prevention/Solution

    • There is a vaccine available to prevent Haemophilius influenzae. This vaccine focuses on building the body's immunity to the bacteria that infects the patient and causes the symptoms.
