    • Toxicologists with less than one year of experience in the field averaged annual salaries of $35,303 to $82,451. With 20 years of experience in the field or more, toxicologists averaged annual salaries of $70,156 to $133,911.

    Employer Type

    • Toxicologists who work for publicly traded companies averaged annual salaries of $54,684 to $114,392, while those who work for private firms earned an average of $60,408 to $117,916. Non-profit organizations paid an average of $40,301 to $69,144 to toxicologists, while the federal and state governments paid an average of $55,397 to $110,553 and $58,958 to $95,785, respectively.

    Industry

    • Toxicologists who worked in the pharmaceuticals research industry averaged salaries $61,000 to $128,503, while those who worked in the education industry at universities averaged $29,250 to $108,200. Scientists employed in environmental consulting earned an average of $57,500 to $113,392.

    Education

    • Toxicologists with a Ph.D. in biochemistry received the highest average salaries at $82,000 to $137,400, while those with a Ph.D. in pharmacology averaged $73,698 to $122,084.

    Geography

    • Toxicologists who worked in the District of Columbia averaged the highest annual salaries at $55,397 to $129,463. High-paying states for toxicologists included California, New York and Ohio.
