Information About Going Green

Due to the limited amount of resources in the world today, everyone has been encouraged by the media and recycling organizations to start "going green." Going green is not only good for the environment but can also save you money on your monthly bills.

  1. Save Energy and Money

    • Tips on saving energy and money on your electric bill include turning off the lights in your house when they are not being used; giving the A/C or heater a break during the day; changing the A/C filter once a month so it doesn't get clogged with dust; keeping your thermostat at a higher or lower setting when you are not in the house; and turning your computer or television off when you are asleep or not at home.

    Saving Water

    • According to Worldwatch.org, you can save water and money on your water bill by taking shorter showers and by installing a "low-flow showerhead." This showerhead will reduce the amount of water that comes out and is inexpensive to buy.

    Eating and Drinking Smart

    • If you use a water filter to purify your tap water, then you could save money by just drinking tap water rather than buying bottled water. It could be healthier for you too. Eating one less meal a week that includes meat could be healthier for you and save you money as well. Meat is generally an expensive food product to purchase.

    Your Health

    • Seriously consider breaking your habits of alcoholism, smoking, dipping or chewing tobacco. Consistently using these products can lead to health problems and causes you to spend extra money.

    Things to Recycle

    • Simple things like batteries and household electronics usually contain toxic chemicals, that could leak into the bottom barrier of a landfill (if sent there after being thrown in the trash) and contaminate groundwater. This could cause health problems for people by polluting drinking water and the areas where food grows.
