Early Dementia & Vomiting

According to NetWellness.org, vomiting is not generally a characteristic of early dementia, although it may be a side effect of certain medications used to treat symptoms of early depression.

  1. MCI

    • Early dementia, also referred to as mild cognitive impairment, or MCI, is characterized by symptoms similar to dementia although people with early dementia still may be able to function normally.

    Dementia

    • Dementia refers to symptoms, such as a decline in cognition, memory loss, impaired speech and language capacity and behavioral and mood disturbances that are caused by conditions and diseases affecting the brain.

    Types

    • Some types of dementia are progressive and irreversible, such as Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body dementia, vascular dementia and frontotemporal dementia. Dementia caused by brain tumors, nutritional deficiencies, poisoning and toxic reactions to drugs and alcohol may be reversible.

    Side Effects

    • Cholinesterase inhibitors, such as Aricept, Exelon and Razadyne, may be prescribed to treat symptoms of early and full-blown dementia. Side effects of these drugs can include vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea.

    Considerations

    • According to HelpGuide.org, an early and accurate diagnosis of early dementia is important to effectively treat the symptoms.
