About Fusion Hair Extensions
-
Fusion hair extensions, made from human hair, are attached to existing hair by either a hot or cold fusion process. The hair treatment is applied by a licensed hairstylist, and the fusion extensions last anywhere from three to six months with proper care.
Hot Fusion Hair Extensions
-
Hot fusion hair extensions are the most common method for fusion hair treatment. Small groups of hair are attached to the clients' natural hair with glue or a keratin-based hair adhesive. Then they are heated to bond the extensions to the natural hair.
-
Cold Fusion Hair Extensions
-
Typically used for clients with thin, fine or brittle hair, cold fusion hair treatment is also applied with a keratin-based hair adhesive; however, a sonic tool bonds the extensions to the natural hair, instead of a tool that uses heat.
Advantages of Fusion Hair Treatment
-
When properly applied, fusion hair extensions are longer lasting than traditional hair extensions, and can be cut and styled like natural hair. Additionally, fusion hair treatments can be used on nearly any hair type and can be removed without damaging the hair.
Disadvantages of Fusion Hair Treatments
-
The cost for fusion hair extensions is considerably greater than other hair treatment options, ranging between $800 and $1,000. Another disadvantage to fusion hair treatments is that some oil-based styling products can weaken the bond, causing the extensions to loosen.
