What Is the Secular Progressive Movement?
The Secular-Progressive Movement, often abbreviated S-P or SP, was coined by political pundit Bill O'Reilly and explored in his 2006 book "Culture Warrior." O'Reilly claims the movement wants to model the United States after Western Europe by removing religion from public life and reshaping political thought.

Features
-
O'Reilly breaks the movement into three parts: financial, legal and media. Wealthy donors support liberal causes, the American Civil Liberties Union inundates the court system with legal challenges, and various media outlets back social and political ideologies.
Significance
-
O'Reilly believes that secular progressives are taking over the Democratic Party and injecting their political agenda, including same-sex marriage, legalized drugs and open borders, into the mainstream discourse.
-
History
-
O'Reilly traces secular progressivism to 20th century communist leaders like Josef Stalin and Mao Zedong. He also links it to fascism, although fascism is a conservative, rather than a liberal, form of government.
Opposition
-
Conservative organizations and voters, whom O'Reilly calls Traditionalists, are the primary opponents to secular progressivism.
Famous Ties
-
Businessmen George Soros and Peter Lewis are considered the movement's chief benefactors, with help from entertainers like Barbra Streisand and George Clooney. Comedian Bill Maher and pundit Arianna Huffington are two of its foremost spokespeople.
Fun Fact
-
O'Reilly believes that secular progressives are behind what he calls the "War on Christmas."
