Inventory Control Manager Job Description

Inventory Managers work in a variety of industries including manufacturing, warehousing, retail and food service. Their main responsibilities are to keep track of inventory and to replenish inventory when it gets down to a certain level.

  1. Shrinkage Control

    • Inventory Managers must ensure that inventory shrinkage (which means loss of inventory due to theft, fraud, loss, damage or counting errors) is kept to an absolute minimum.

    Recordkeeping

    • Records of each product's inventory count must be constantly maintained so that no product is ever out of stock and customer fulfillment rates remain high.

    Organization/Slotting

    • Keeping inventory organized in a logical manner is another primary duty of the inventory manager. Logical organization (or slotting) ensures faster and more successful shipping operations.

    Computer Operations

    • Most inventory control systems are computerized, which means that the inventory control manager should be well versed in basic computer operations.

    Education

    • Most inventory control managers are required to have a bachelor's degree.
