Requirements for a Fiance Visa in the Philippines

The K-1 Fiancé(e) Visa is a non-immigrant visa issued to the fiancé(e) of a U.S. Citizen. The fiancé(e) may enter the U.S. using this visa and marry the petitioner within 90 days of entry.

  1. How to Start

    • First of all, the petitioner and the fiancé(e) must have met in person at least once in the past two years. This is one of the basic requirements, according to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website.

      To start the process, the petitioner must file form I-129F Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) with the USCIS that has jurisdiction over his place of residence. Once the petition is approved, the U.S. Embassy in Manila will send to the Filipino fiancé(e) a packet of information on how to apply for the K-1 visa.

    Getting an Interview Appointment

    • Upon receiving the information packet the the U.S. Embassy, the fiancé(e) may do one of the following to schedule an interview appointment with the embassy:

      Call (909) 101-7878 from within the Philippines.
      Call (888) 877-9888 from the United States.

      The service is available Monday-Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm, Manila local time.

    Medical Exam

    • The fiancé(e) needs to undergo the required medical exam at St. Luke's Medical Center Extension Clinic prior to her scheduled interview appointment with the U.S. Embassy.

    Document Requirements for the Interview

    • The Filipino fiancé(e) must bring the following documents at the time of the interview:

      Valid Philippine passport
      Copy of birth certificate issued by the National Statistics Office, printed on NSO security paper
      Documents proving termination of previous marriages, if applicable
      NBI clearance
      Police certificates from all foreign countries where the fiancé(e) lived for at least 6 months starting at the age of 16
      Evidence of relationship with petitioner. Examples are:
      -pictures
      -printouts of emails or chat logs
      -letters and greeting cards
      Evidence of financial support
      Medical exam document from St. Luke's Medical Center Extension Clinic
      Visa photographs

    Fees

    • The fees incurred will include:

      US$455.00 to file I-129F in the U.S.
      US$131.00 for the K-1 visa application
      US$213.35 for the medical examination
      US$0.98 per minute (if calling (909) 101-7878 from within the Philippines) or
      US$18.00 (if calling (888) 877-9888 from within the United States) to set an interview appointment
