What Are the Duties of an Ecologist?
Ecologists are scientists who seek to understand the structure and specifics of ecosystems and their relationships to other life forms and the environment. Ecologists have educational backgrounds in ecology or biology and spend a great deal of time performing observations and research.

Ecology
-
The primary duty of ecologists is to investigate the species within ecosystems and gather scientific and behavioral information.
Individuals
-
The branch of ecology called autecology is concerned with the study of individual organisms and their success as a species.
-
Communities
-
Ecologists study communities of species and analyze their organization, activities, development and relationships to other species and the environment.
Environment
-
Ecologists must have knowledge of environmental factors such as climate, pollution, precipitation and altitude; ecologists usually focus on a specific species or community in the water, on land or in the air.
Data
-
An important part of ecological work is collecting, analyzing and interpreting scientific data achieved through research.
