A Chinese lantern party is a festival revolving around lighting small paper lanterns, also known as wish lanterns, in celebration of the Chinese new year. It is typical for all the guests to have their own lanterns to light. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Activities

    • Guests will eat Asian-inspired food and drink. It is customary for people to gather during an evening and be outside to fully enjoy the lights of their lanterns. There is typically entertainment such as music and dancing.

    • Typically guests at a Chinese lantern party will enjoy finger foods like egg rolls, fortune cookies, dumplings, fried rice and lemon chicken.

    Lanterns

    • The lanterns are made of rice paper, with a small fuel cell inside. The rice paper is biodegradable and comes in a variety of colors.

    How Do the Lanterns Work?

    • Once the fuel cell is lit, you can let go of your lantern. It will fill with hot air and can climb approximately a mile into the sky.

    How Long Will the Lanterns Last?

    • They will last for about 10 to 12 minutes and will slowly float down to the ground once they extinguish.
