If you want to grow many different types of citrus fruits but don't have the room for more than one tree, there actually exists a tree that grows multiple-fruits. The 'Citrus Fruit Salad Tree,' has several different citrus trees grafted to one root stock. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. How They are Produced

    • Several shallow cuts are made in the bark of a base tree, then a twig or bud from each different citrus tree is placed inside the cut and then sealed with tape.

    Harvest Times

    • The beauty of growing a tree with many different types of citrus fruits is that they will each harvest at different times of the year, giving you a nearly continuous supply of fruit.

    Great for Small Spaces

    • These trees are relatively small, which makes them ideal for small yards or even in a pot on a patio or deck.

    Multiple Fruit Varieties

    • The different varieties of fruits available in a fruit salad tree are: oranges, mandarins, lemons, limes, tangellos, grapefruit and pomellos.

    Drawbacks

    • One of the major drawbacks to having a tree with many different kinds of fruits is that since they mature at varying rates, it may be impossible to spray for pests without contaminating fruit that is nearly ready for harvesting.
