Courses Required for Aerospace Engineering

Undergraduate aerospace engineering students must take a range of required liberal arts and sciences courses in addition to the principal core degree courses in aerospace design and physics. This is true for both on-campus students and those pursuing online degrees.

Liberal Arts

An aerospace engineering student typically must to take an introductory English course in composition, as well as a social science or humanities elective. The University of Florida requires this, for example.

Liberal Sciences

Students must take a physical science sequence, and most programs either recommend or require this to be a series of chemistry courses.

Mathematics

Aerospace engineering programs require that students take a series of advanced analytic geometry and calculus courses.

Physics

Many programs, such as that at North Carolina State University, require that students take a series of physics courses specifically designed for engineering students. Many of these are blended calculus and physics courses.

Aerospace Engineering

The core component of every aerospace engineering program is the broad slate of specialized engineering courses, which generally include courses in computer programming, engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, astrodynamics, aerospace design and aerospace propulsion.
