What Grants Can Cover
-
Becoming a teacher can cost thousands of dollars in tuition, testing and credentialing expenses. According to ABC News, teachers spend an average of $448 of their own pay on classroom supplies.
Service Grants
-
Working in certain areas can make you eligible for grants. Programs like Teach for America and the NEA Foundation award teachers who work to close the achievement gap. Some, like TFA (Teach for America), require organizational service while others, like NEA, simply require an online application.

State and Local Grants
-
Local districts and state governments offer a variety of grants for public educators that vary widely by state. Areas that have a deficiency in staffing for a subject area will frequently offer grants to help fill these staffing vacancies.
Federal Grants
-
The federal government offers many grants for a wide variety of teachers. The federal government has set up websites that offer grants to teachers anywhere in America. The criteria ranges based on the grant that you apply for. Some are given based on the subject taught while others focus on the number of years in service or the region where you're teaching.
Tips
-
Read all of your grant opportunities closely to make sure you meet all the criteria. Remember to always keep the focus on becoming a better educator and helping your students succeed.
